Vietnam Travel Guide: Hanoi, Hoi An and a First Week

A short Vietnam trip benefits from choosing a region or two rather than racing the length of the country. This introduction pairs Hanoi with Hoi An, using Da Nang for the central connection and leaving other regions for a longer visit.

Choose two experiences before more destinations

Hanoi offers a northern city stay; Hoi An adds an ancient-town and riverside experience in central Vietnam. Decide whether those are your priorities. A bay cruise, a southern city or a mountain stay needs its own time and cannot be counted as a small stop between full city days.

Give Hanoi complete city days

Plan around the Old Quarter and Hoan Kiem area, then choose a cultural visit for a different outing. Time for cafés, meals and the streets between is part of the experience. Group nearby stops instead of filling the day with transport across the city.

Choose the Hoi An base you actually want

An ancient-town base, a countryside property and a beach-oriented stay serve different holidays. Check the actual address, vehicle access and distance to the activities you want. A hotel named for Hoi An is not automatically next to the river or the historic streets.

Count the connection through Da Nang

Confirm the Hanoi departure and Da Nang arrival on the ticket, then arrange the road journey to the specific Hoi An property. Include bags, check-in and both airport transfers. A domestic flight is only one part of the hotel-to-hotel travel day.

Check weather for each part of the route

Northern and central destinations need their own local forecast and activity check. Keep outdoor and water-based outings flexible and ask the operator about changes. A general statement about a Vietnam season does not tell you what will operate at one place on your dates.

Make the final airport explicit

The suggested week ends near Da Nang and assumes a suitable onward flight from there. If your international departure is from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, add the positioning journey and revise the final night. Leave a workable margin rather than hiding another transfer inside a full sightseeing day.

Common questions

Can I see the whole country in one week?
A week is better treated as a selected route. This guide uses two bases; extra regions require replacing part of it or adding time.
Does flying to Da Nang mean arriving in Hoi An?
No. Include the road transfer and the exact hotel address in the arrival plan.
Does this week fit every international flight?
No. It ends near Da Nang. Departures from another gateway require a revised final leg and possibly a different last night.
