Italy in 7 Days: Rome and Florence by Two City Bases
This six-night outline assumes arrival in Rome and departure from the Florence area. It keeps two hotel bases and counts the rail journey as part of the week. If you fly home from Rome, revise the last day and accommodation rather than assuming the return fits automatically.
Day 1: settle into Rome
Keep the first outing close to the accommodation and leave any essential timed booking for another day. Confirm check-in and take a short walk or meal if convenient. A late flight may make rest the most useful first-night activity.
Days 2–3: choose two city themes
Use one day for the ancient-city area and another for a historic-centre walk or a priority museum. Choose based on your interests instead of booking every famous interior. Add time for the journey, entry arrangements, meals and breaks.
Day 4: travel to Florence
Check the actual rail service and stations, leave time from hotel to train and settle into the next property. A first walk near the accommodation can fit later. Avoid a museum reservation whose timing assumes no delay or queue anywhere in the transfer.
Day 5: art and the city centre
Pair one chosen art visit with a manageable walk around the centre. Check the entry time and venue arrangements beforehand. Give yourself time to look properly rather than making the visit a short stop between several other reservations.
Day 6: the river or an alternative interest
Use the Arno and Oltrarno for a slower city day, or replace it with a specific excursion you have arranged. These are alternatives, not two full days squeezed into one. Confirm the return and keep the evening compatible with the next departure.
Day 7: depart or revise the final leg
Work from the actual airport and airline guidance. If the flight is from Rome or another city, plan that journey explicitly and consider moving the final night. With more days, extend a base or add a separate destination rather than making every day shorter.
